Al recenzo! Write a review for the EUSA bookstore...

Tim Westover's picture

When Esperanto-USA updated its bookstore several months ago, one of the most anticipated new capabilities was the ability to post reviews and opinions of any item. But since then, there haven't been very many reviews posted. We really need them!

The Esperanto-USA bookstore has thousands of items -- books (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, textbooks), music, videos, ephemera and miscellany. But not everything is of equal value or for every taste. Each product does currently have a brief description, but these are usually from a neutral point-of-view that may not tell the whole story. It's sometimes hard to tell what's good, what's bad, and help the good rise to the top and the bad. That's where you come in.

Books with reviews really do sell better. It's a great way to help out Esperanto-USA, help out your fellow shoppers, and make sure that your favorite Esperanto books and items get some much-deserved recognition.

Here's how you write a review for the Esperanto-USA bookstore:

1) Enter the Esperanto-USA bookstore.
2) Click on Log in in the upper-left.
3) Log in with your e-mail and password (may be different than your E-USA website password) or create a new account. You don't need to be a member of Esperanto-USA to write reviews in the bookstore,
4) Use the search field or the categories to find the item you'd like to review.
5) Click on "Write a Review".
6) Pick a star rating and enter your comments. You can write in English, Esperanto, Spanish, Toki Pona -- any language that makes sense for the product you're reviewing.
7) If you want your review to be anonymous, you can leave your name off the review, or you can sign it with your own name or handle you like.
8) When you submit your review, it will go to one of the bookstore moderators for review. We're not going to censor any reviews -- mainly, we just have to control spam.

I'm going to try to make a habit of writing a quick review every time I finish reading a book in Esperanto. I think this will be good for my personal experience with the book (taking a few minutes to reflect on what I've read will help it to sink in), and hopefully my reviews will be helpful to others as well.

Is there a link to bring up

kvarko's picture

Is there a link to bring up all books with reviews? Let's say that I just want to browse reviews? Could that be made into a link in the top-left box of the main page?

Also, I see that the very bottom on the left is a tiny link "Recommendations" which brings up a few paragraphs of text. This link, however, appears not to be related to the very prominent link "RECOMMENDED" at the top left. I'm not sure I understand the page which is linked to as "RECOMMENDED", whereas the paragraphs that are linked to from "Recommendations" is more clear.

Also, is it true that

Also, is it true that hyperlinks are not allowed? What if my review for one book mentions another book -- is there no way to link to that book in the bookstore? (Or to matching search results, if that's more robust.)

links in reviews

Yes, hyperlinks are deliberately changed (mungled?) - all HTML brackets are changed to underlines.

I could find nothing in the documentation about this, and there are no add-ons to handle links.
Sorry!

Like Russ, I have reviews at

Like Russ, I have reviews at GoodReads.com but will start putting them on EUSA's site too. For books whose entries don't have pictures, is there a way that I can contribute a picture? For instance, the entry for Modernaj Robinzonoj doesn't have a picture, but if you search around online, there are plenty to be found.

pictures of books

vilcxjo-me's picture

As I come across an entry in the retbutiko that does not have a picture, I add it.

There are a few books that have no picture and are out-of-stock. As I get new copies, I adsd the picture.

The scanning process is slow, so I never have enough time in hand to update all the missing pictures.

Mi lastatempe skribas recenzojn/komentojn/reagojn pri ĵus legitaj libroj (ĉefe Esperantaj) ĉe goodreads.com, sed mi konsentas ke ankaŭ utilas fari tiajn komentojn ĉi tie! Do mi ekfaras ĉi tie.
